With sunny weather, affordability, English-speaking locals, and the Malaysia My Second Home residency programme, George Town, Malaysia is ranked the third best place to retire by Live and Invest Overseas in its 2014 Retire Overseas Index.

Named after Britain’s King George III, George Town is the capital of the state of Penang and was listed by UNESCO in 2008 as a World Heritage Site for its colonial charm. With a population of around 740,000, it is small enough that it’s easy to make friends and meet people, yet big enough for health care that meets international standards and easy availability to goods and services.

Moreover, this is a paradise for food lovers and, all things considered, one of the most livable cities in Southeast Asia.

Aside from this, Portugal’s Algarve was named as the best place to retire followed by the colonial city of Cuenca in Ecuador. Chiang Mai in Thailand and Dumaguete in Philippines took the fourth and fifth spot respectively.
